The Lagos State Biobank is a meticulously structured and securely maintained repository for vital biological specimens supporting medical diagnostics, scientific research and public health advancements.
The facility was commissioned to provide diagnosis of highly infectious diseases and has performed that responsibility since the first case of coronavirus disease was diagnosed in Lagos on 27 February 2020. It has been approved and linked by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to the network of molecular laboratories in Nigeria for the diagnosis of COVID-19 cases in Lagos. The facility is located within the Mainland Hospital Complex; the Environmental Impact Assessment at this location was sponsored and conducted by the Lagos State Government.
